spring fashion

The March issue of South Jersey Magazine is finally here, and I couldn’t be happier with the way the spring fashion spread turned out. We had such a talented team, and this shoot was one of the most efficient and smooth shoots I’ve ever been a part of.

As always, Dominic Episcopo found the most amazing backdrops and set up such beautiful shots. The retailers, Macy’sDenim HabitJoey’s Boutique, and Jay Roberts, were beyond helpful and accommodating. And the models, the beautiful wives of the Philadelphia Flyers, Lauren Pronger, Nadine Colburn, and Laura O’Donnell, were just so sweet and lovely to work with.

What’s your favorite look?

destination wedding research, yucatan edition

Back from an amazing week away, or what I like to call destination wedding/honeymoon research. D and I get away at least once a year because it’s important to take the time to relax and recharge.

We were lucky enough to spend the week at the lovely El Dorado Casitas Royale in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula.  Nestled between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, this “gourmet inclusive” resort boasts one mile of beachfront. The resort offers two sections, El Dorado and Casitas Royale, at two different price points so there is something for everyone. My favorite part of the Casitas was the beach palapas and our  private balcony with futon (perfect for siestas).

Being a “gourmet inclusive,” there is really no reason to leave the resort, unless you are interested in sightseeing or excursions. There are seven restaurants, but we found a few faves and kept going back. Cocotal every morning for breakfast; the best omelets I’ve ever had. Daily lunch at the Health Bar for yummy wraps and made to order smoothies. We celebrated Valentine’s Day with dinner at Kampai (Asian fusion). And our all time favorite was the Casitas Italian restaurant, D’Italia, which far exceeded our expectations. Have you ever had lobster lasagna? And after dinner every night, there is some sort of entertainment. We stopped by a few nights and saw the circus-esque show and El Dorado Idol; both were very entertaining.

During the day, there are countless activities offered. I’m a lazy beach person, so I tried yoga one morning, but if I were motivated, I could have gone on the bike tour, played beach volleyball, or even learned how to shoot an air rifle. The spa is much more my speed and we started V-day with a massage, literally on the beach, which I highly recommend. The sounds of the ocean are definitely more relaxing than spa music.

All in all, we had a really great time and I can understand why a couple would choose El Dorado for a destination wedding or honeymoon. For the ceremony, couples can choose between the beach, a gazebo, the chapel, and the rooftop deck. There are also many style and location options for the reception ranging from the more traditional to a beach party. The week we stayed, there were nine weddings, and one evening we ran into a happy couple taking their wedding photos on the beach. So beautiful!

While looking for more information about El Dorado weddings online, I stumbled upon Elizabeth Medina, a photographer who specializes in destination weddings and has quite a few El Dorado weddings on her blog. Here are some of my fave El Dorado wedding pics from her site.

styling the spring fashion shoot

Have you ever tried finding Spring merchandise in early February? With snow on the ground, most people are still thinking about keeping cozy in sweaters and boots, so stores are full of sale winter merch and a few Spring pieces here and there. But I was extremely lucky and found some gorgeous and fun warm weather looks…

I love shoes and was so lucky that my models were all the same size. Everyone was obsessing over these nude cutout platforms by BCBGeneration. And I can’t get enough of these cute clutches.

Oh the jewels. You will never guess how much all of these jewels are worth! Here’s a hint… the three strand diamond necklace is equivalent to a post-collegiate starting salary.

Can’t wait to see the final product in the March issue South Jersey Magazine!

happy valentine’s day!

Ahhh, Valentine’s Day.  What should you do to celebrate?  We think the more sentimental, the better.  Save the flowers and the candy, and just spend some time with the one you love.

Are you dating someone?  Do something fun out on the town, like dinner at your favorite restaurant or where you went on your first date.  Engaged?  Take time away from wedding planning for the night to just be with your fiance and do something together that you love.  Or maybe find your wedding song and practice dancing!  Are you married?  Dance to your wedding song or watch your wedding video together (the highlights!) and remember how wonderful it felt to celebrate your love on your wedding day.

If there’s not a special someone, go out with friends or family and forget about all the romance (it’s just a hallmark holiday anyway, right?) : )

Happy Valentine’s Day!

happy spring colors

Today we’re loving Pantone’s Fashion Color Report Spring 2011.

Pantone, “the global authority on color,” visits New York Fashion Week every September to bring us the color trends of the upcoming season. After speaking with the designers and seeing their collections, Pantone puts together this fun report, chock full of inspiration, bright colors, and sexy sketches.

Here are the top new hues that we’ll see in fashion, marketing & advertising, oh and of course… weddings!

Regatta, blue curacao, and coral rose evokes thoughts of sun-soaked destination weddings. We see whimsical fairytales with peapod and honeysuckle accents throughout. And nature-inspired gatherings of russet and beeswax. Silver cloud and silver peony creating the most romantic affair. The possiblities are endless because the colors are so beautifully interchangeable.

Get inspired ladies! Your wedding day style starts with the colors.

in bloom

Meet smashbox’s in bloom spring eye shadow palette. So many beautiful colors that it had to come home with me.

Curious about the rest of the collection, I went onto the smashbox website and found this great page called get the look. The more I explored, the more fun features I found. First, the obvious: the makeup and brushes used. Next I stumbled upon written ‘how to’ instructions that can be downloaded as an easily printable PDF. And some of the looks even have step by step video directions. From blushing beauty to classic hollywood glam, this is the perfect spot for the bride looking for wedding day beauty inspiration.

pineapple farm design

We met Renee and Sebastian of Pineapple Farm Design at the lovesick expo a few weeks ago. Since then, we have poured through all of the lovely samples they gave us and have fallen in love. Here are some of our favorites:

natural wedding invites (love orange)…

fun and flirty invites…

pretty programs…

menus… (love the circle menu to fit the plate!)

the welcome pamphlet for out-of-town guests to enjoy all that the wedding city has to offer…

and my favorite… luggage tag favors/seating cards for a destination wedding!

Hmm… that last one makes me want to go on vacation!

sweet skirts and open toe shoes

Even though we are in the middle of another snowstorm, I’m thinking about sweet skirts, flowing fabric, and open toe shoes. That’s because I’m styling a fashion spread for South Jersey Magazine and have spring fashion on my mind. Pulling warm weather looks mid-winter is much easier than leather jackets in August, which is what happened last year. We shot the fall fashion spread outside on one of the hottest days of the year…

Some of the trends we’ll see this spring include sheer fabrics, charming prints, lovely lace, eastern influences (think kimono-inspired), bright color blocking, modern monochromatic suiting, animal themed prints, and updated 70’s styles.

Until it’s time to wear these fun new trends, stay warm, and be sure to check back for updates and behind the scenes pics from the shoot.
